Fern Britton has admitted she suffered “blunt force trauma” while participating in a Celebrity Big Brother challenge. The star appeared on This Morning to discuss her stint in the West London house on Wednesday (27 March).

The ITV revival of Celebrity Big Brother concluded earlier this month, with Ibiza Weekender’s David Potts being crowned champion. Fern, 66, was just one of the celebrity contenders on this year’s programme, which was hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best.

Following her exit, Fern took to This Morning to reveal her experience of the “alien environment” and lifted the lid on the injury she picked up during an energetic task. During the challenge, she collided with 26-year-old Nikita Kuzmin and was forced to retire to the diary room to recover.

Speaking about the incident with This Morning hots Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, Fern said she’d been embroiled in an “awful game” where contestants were attempting to pop each other’s balloons. However, disaster struck when she collided with the Strictly Come Dancing professional.

“We were running around with drawing pins and having to defend out big balls,” she explained. “I mean it was crazy. And then there was the crash and the banging of my head.”

When Cat, 47, asked her guest if the incident “hurt” her, Fern replied in the affirmative before saying: “Nikita got me into the diary room and we sat.

“And the medic came out and said ‘Well, it’s blunt force trauma Fern, so you will feel a bit funny’.

“I had to go and get a shower and get ready because it was eviction night but the medic he said ‘Just have someone in the bathroom while you’re in the shower’.”

The mother-of-four then revealed that David, 30, volunteered to watch over her while she got ready for the eviction night.

“David sat on the sofa while I was in the shower going ‘You alright Ferny?,” she added. “He is the most adorable man.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Fern admitted that she hadn’t seen any footage from her time in the Celebrity Big Brother house.

She revealed that she didn’t want to “embarrass” herself by sitting alone on the sofa and “feeling ghastly” on her own.

“And I don’t want to delve deep into anything that well, I just don’t want to.”

After entering the 23rd Celebrity Big Brother experience on March 4, Fern came in 5th place – beating out the likes of Dragons’ Den star Levi Roots and Gary Goldsmith.

Louis Walsh missed out on a podium spot after coming fourth, while Coronation Street’s Colson Smith and Nikita achieved bronze and silver placements, respectively.

Tune into This Morning every weekday from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
