Irish Variety in Chemistry Education Meeting 2026

We are excited to announce the 13th Irish Variety in Chemistry Education meeting, jointly organised by Maynooth University and Technological University Dublin.
This meeting, held every two to three years, aims to share effective practice in chemistry teaching and related education research in higher education in Ireland and beyond. The 2026 meeting will be held in Maynooth University on Friday, the 10th of April. Venue: Renehan Hall, South Campus, Maynooth 

Keynote Speakers
We are delighted to announce Dr Giorgio Chianello, Queen Mary University of London and Dr Kevin Morgan, Queen’s University Belfast, as speakers on the day. Giorgio’s scholarship focuses on new teaching technologies, including the use of GenAI and VR and enhancing diversity and inclusion within the scientific community. He was awarded the Queen Mary University of London Excellence in Education Award in 2025. Kevin is the 2025 RSC Excellence in Higher Education Prize winner, recognised for his sustained contributions to innovation in chemistry pedagogy, commitment to inclusive education, and leadership and advocacy within the wider chemistry education community.

Registration
Registration will be available through the MU Shop and costs €20. This will include a light lunch and tea/coffee on arrival. (Registration Link to be available shortly) Registration deadline, Friday, 27th of March.

Are you interested in presenting?
Participants are invited to submit abstracts to be considered for oral presentations (10-12 minutes) or ‘lightning’ talks (5 minutes). Please provide your abstract using this template

Invite to Celebrate with the Virtual Labs Team
The Virtual Labs Team will celebrate the Award of the RSC Team Prize for Excellence in Higher Education immediately after the Variety meeting. We would be delighted if you could also join us for this event which will take place 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm and include light refreshments.
